ellie from Ballymoney ,Co.Antrim ,got her first taste of real success when she won Granada’s talent show “This is My Moment” ,hosted by Spice Girl Mel B on September 1st 2001. On the night ellie performed her own touching version of Ralph McTell’s Streets of London .She received a massive public vote of over 270 000 votes ,more than double her nearest competitor, Andy Abraham from the X Factor. Subsequently she was interviewed and sang live on the popular breakfast show GMTV, followed by another live performance on UTV’s “The Kelly Show”.
ellie’s singing talent was first discovered by her mother who decided to send her to singing lessons. As a consequence she won several awards at singing festivals and she would go on to win a talent competition sponsored by Harp lager and the Sunday World newspaper.
After meeting her partner Bryan they started writing and performing as a two piece band playing at venues all over N.Ireland. Due to public reaction at the gigs ellie began to gain confidence. As her voice matured she was able to sing a wide selection of rock, pop and folk music. Consequently, after the success of the show the two piece now go by the name of ellie.
ellie had been steadily composing a collection of original material and in October 2001 commenced the recording of her debut album, “So Near So Far”, which was completed April 2002. The album draws on a wide spectrum of influences including Sheryl Crow, Fleetwood Mac, Mary Black and Eva Cassidy.
Due to public demand ellie returned to the recording studio in 2005 to put together a new album, “Goodness Sake” which is a collection of much loved cover songs with the leading track “Goodness Sake” being one of her own, which has achieved a great response to date……….
