the song " the star of the county down" is an irish ballad of cathal mac garvey (1866-1927). the melody is by far older and already in 1726 appeared book " music for allan ramsay' s collection of scots songs" from alexander stuart under the designation gilderoy documents. on the same melody there are numerous of far songs, among other things my love nell, divers and lazarus, the murder of maria martin, mary from blackwater side, when first i left old irland. the rhymescheme of the song is remarkable, since the lines do not only rhyme themselves in pairs, but in the lines 1, 3, 5 and 7 still inrhyme lie in each case. the song is out sung by the point of view of a young man, who meets a young woman named rose mccann, which as "the star of the county down" one designates. my version is in such a way arranged, as it would have sounded before nearly 200 years. like a wonderful waltz on a green meadow.
