Artist review

Where were we, when Eugen Svab and his Paul Zajacek Big Band performed some of the best Swing classics?

Why hasn’t he been really big over here? Why’s he never been invited to German or other foreign TV channels? Something’s gotta change: Eugen Svab is one of our last talents of the Swing/Dancemusic era.

Czechoslovakia born Eugen Svab has all a good singer à la Paul Anka needs: an expressive, charismatic voice with the air of a true Entertainer, a good vibrado in his throat, the touch of an accent and a great Big Band in his back: The Paul Zajacek Big Band.

His German interpretation of “All of Me” ("Liebe Dich") and “That’s Life” sound as good as always, and as a kid, I certainly would have enjoyed hearing his version on the radio.

Eugen Svab isn’t just a characteristic name, he already looks back to an impressive music career, starting out as the winner of the National Dancemusic Contest in Bratislava in ’68, many TV shows in Czechoslovakia, two years of touring in Germany in Finland and three album releases with the fourth one in the works. It’s about time, that we give some respect to the grey-haired eminence with the fab moustache, who is a top singer of the swinging dancemusic era and easily compares to stars like Michael Bublé.

Eugen Svab wants to do a German version of his forthcoming (czech) album and is looking for a German producr, who want to record it with him. Get in touch if you can help!

My Songtip: “Ich will mehr” (“I want more”)
